Dear CIES Colleagues,

On behalf of CIES President Regina Cortina and the Board of Directors, it is with the utmost pleasure that we announce the following recipients of the CIES Innovation Fund:

M. Fernanda Pineda (Florida International University), Jorge Enrique Delgado (University of Pittsburgh), and Felisa Tibbitts (Teachers College, Columbia University), for their project, Academic and Non-Academic Career Preparation Workshops in Comparative and International Education.

Emily Anderson (Centenary University), Catherine Vanner (McGill University), Kristy Kelly (Drexel University), and Christine Min Wotipka (Stanford University), for their project, Innovating Gender Monitoring in CIES

The purpose of the "Academic and Non-Academic Career Preparation Workshops in Comparative and International Education" project is to prepare doctoral candidates for non-academic positions in comparative and international education. Knowledge, skills, and experiences necessary for non-academic careers will be identified through a needs assessment which will then be applied to three dynamic, intensive webinars. Ideally, this initiative will launch the institutionalization of such webinars by CIES and a pre-conference workshop on this topic, beginning in 2020.

The "Innovating Gender Monitoring in CIES" proposed initiative is meant to encourage the promotion of gender inclusivity in policies, practices, and publications. Using interviews, focus groups, and participant-observation, this project will provide an opportunity for the Society to revisit how gender is reflected and refracted by the membership in their experiences with CIES. Findings will evidence how the Society can further improve women, non-binary and gender non-conforming experiences and representation as well as guide the programming and advocacy activities of the Gender and Education Committee.

Each project will be funded up to $10,000 for work to be carried out in 2019.

Special thanks to the Ad-hoc Committee on Reviewing Innovation Fund Proposals: Keita Takayama (University of New England), Will Brehm (Waseda University), Jinting Wu (University at Buffalo).

We look forward to seeing these initiatives come to fruition.
