Proposals are now being accepted for the new CIES Innovation Fund.The purpose of the Innovation Fund is to offer seed funding for initiatives or assist in the implementation of endeavors with clear time frames that align with the Comparative and International Education Society (CIES) mission to foster cross-cultural understanding, scholarship, academic achievement and societal development through the international study of educational ideas, systems, and practices.
CIES members can apply to the CIES Innovation fund for a grant up to $10,000 in funding with the following stipulations:
Collaboration across units within CIES is strongly encouraged. Proposals must be sponsored by at least 3 CIES individual members in good standing or at least one CIES unit in order to be considered.
The proposal should highlight how funding will be used to advance knowledge production and dissemination for the larger field and Society.
In the case of proposals for academic meetings, symposia or other convenings, the call for papers or requests for applications/participants must be open to all CIES Members with no discrimination based on age, nationality, race, gender, religion, sexual orientation, or other factor. This fund is not intended to support exclusive or private meetings of members or research teams who are already in close contact with one another.
Proposals that seek to use CIES Innovation Funds as start-up moneys for a longer-term program-development or implementation initiatives should include a sustainability plan.
Examples of events or initiatives that can be supported through the CIES Innovation include – but are not limited to – the following:
Symposia on issues of topical, methodological or theoretical significance to the field of Comparative and International Education
Skills workshops on topics such as preparing book proposals, publishing, influencing policy through CIE research, etc.
New publications or other forms of knowledge dissemination
Knowledge mobilization through a policy paper series, website, and/or press briefing.
Proposals for CIES Innovation Fund projects should be sent to the OED by August 15, 2018. Innovation Fund awards decisions will be made on the basis of merit and funding availability by the CIES Board of Directors by October 15, 2018.
