CIES 2018 Film Festivalette

The CIES 2018 Spaces of Education in Film Festivalette, funded by the Open Society Foundations Education Support Program, focuses on socio-political factors that influence schooling in Latin American
contemporary film.

The selected films portray the complex inter-relationships between school and family life, between
schooling and social and political realities, and the potential of education to transform individuals,
communities and society. The program blurs the distinction between documentary and fiction: it includes
two documentaries, one of which uses narrative storytelling techniques and four narrative films that
incorporate real-life elements. The film festival begins March 25, 2018, and continues up to
March 29, 2018.

Conference attendees are also welcome to attend the pre-conference workshop — Representations of
Education in Latin American Film — facilitated by Hugh McLean from Open Society Foundations along
with Jorge Baxter and Adriana Cepeda, the Festivalette curators. For more information on pre-conference
workshops, please visit our conference website.

Film festivalette screenings will take place at the Museo de Arte Popular Auditorium, Calle
Revillagigedo 11, Historical Center, Mexico City, Mexico, 06000. To view the list of films or for more details
