The Social and Comparative Analysis in Education (SCAE) Program at the University of Pittsburgh (www.education.pitt.edu/programs/soccomp/) is seeking nominations and applications for one or more visiting professors to replace tenure faculty members who will be on leave. Appointment(s) will be made as early as the beginning of the Fall Term of 2004. Colleagues at various stages of their academic and/or related professional careers, including recent doctorates and emeriti faculty, are encouraged to apply for periods ranging from one semester to two full academic years.

Candidates should have a specialization in comparative analysis of educational policy and practice in elementary, secondary, higher and/or teacher education as well as national educational systems. Scholarly commitments to gender, racial, or ethnicity issues; social and educational theory in global context; qualitative and quantitative research methods; and sociological or political foundations of education are highly desirable. Experience in working on international education projects funded by bilateral agencies, multilateral organizations, and/or foundations is a valuable asset. Successful candidate(s) would be expected to affiliate with the School of Education’s Institute for International Studies in Education (www.pitt.edu/~iise). It is also possible for the individual(s) to be affiliated with area studies programs (Asia, Latin America, Russia and East Europe, and Western Europe) of the University Center for International Studies (www.ucis.pitt.edu/main/).

Faculty members in the School of Education normally teach five courses during a two-term, eight-month academic year and have the opportunity for paid teaching and project/consulting work during the summer term. Salary is competitive, depending on qualifications and experience. Additional information about the School of Education may be obtained at www.education.pitt.edu.

Applications should include a letter of interest, curriculum vitae, three letters of recommendation, and one or more samples of writing that provide evidence of scholarship. Inquiries, applications, or nominations should be sent (preferably by email with a cv attached) to:
