The
Social and Comparative Analysis in Education (SCAE) Program at the University
of Pittsburgh (www.education.pitt.edu/programs/soccomp/) is seeking nominations
and applications for one or more visiting professors to replace tenure
faculty members who will be on leave. Appointment(s) will be made as early
as the beginning of the Fall Term of 2004. Colleagues at various stages
of their academic and/or related professional careers, including recent
doctorates and emeriti faculty, are encouraged to apply for periods ranging
from one semester to two full academic years.
Candidates
should have a specialization in comparative analysis of educational policy
and practice in elementary, secondary, higher and/or teacher education
as well as national educational systems. Scholarly commitments to gender,
racial, or ethnicity issues; social and educational theory in global context;
qualitative and quantitative research methods; and sociological or political
foundations of education are highly desirable. Experience in working on
international education projects funded by bilateral agencies, multilateral
organizations, and/or foundations is a valuable asset. Successful candidate(s)
would be expected to affiliate with the School of Educations Institute
for International Studies in Education (www.pitt.edu/~iise). It is also
possible for the individual(s) to be affiliated with area studies programs
(Asia, Latin America, Russia and East Europe, and Western Europe) of the
University Center for International Studies (www.ucis.pitt.edu/main/).
Faculty
members in the School of Education normally teach five courses during
a two-term, eight-month academic year and have the opportunity for paid
teaching and project/consulting work during the summer term. Salary is
competitive, depending on qualifications and experience. Additional information
