CIES relies on its members to evaluate all of the paper, panel, roundtable, and poster proposals that are submitted to the CIES 2018 Mexico City conference. We seek scholars in the field of comparative and international education with a wide range of specializations and areas of expertise to review for the general pool, Special Interest Groups (SIGs), and Standing Committees. Academic researchers at all levels, practitioners and policymakers with previous experience attending a CIES conference, and advanced graduate students are encouraged to volunteer.

The intellectual rigor and strength of reputation of the CIES Annual Meeting derives in part from our blind, peer review process.  For 2018, we ask reviewers to use evaluate proposals assigned to them against five review criteria using a 4-point rating scale, which you can view here. Each proposal will be reviewed by a minimum of 2 reviewers and thus we require a large number of volunteers for this important work.

Reviewers should expect to review anywhere between 5 and 30 proposals in each unit for which they volunteer (e.g. general pool, SIGs and Standing Committees), depending upon the number of proposals submitted and the area(s) of the expertise of the volunteer. We expect to begin forming review panels in early October and reviewers will receive their assignments by mid October 2017. The CIES 2018 Program Committee would appreciate that reviewed proposals are returned to program chairs within a week of when they are received.

To volunteer to become a reviewer, please log onto our submission system and select the “Volunteer to become a Chair, Discussant, or Reviewer” option. You may also volunteer to serve as a chair and/or discussant for paper or roundtable papers sessions on this page. Your selection of 5 keyword areas of expertise and up to 5 geographic areas of expertise will assist our program chairs in assigning submissions to appropriate reviewers. Furthermore, your indication of your language abilities (whether you are bilingual in English and Spanish) will help us to assign appropriate chairs to sessions that might feature presenters speaking in both English and Spanish.
