The Comparative & International Education Society (CIES)—with approval by its Board of Directors—is pleased to announce the transfer of association management to its new Executive Director: Dr. Hilary Landorf, Director of the Office of Global Learning Initiatives (OGLI) and Associate Professor in the School of Education and Human Development at Florida International University (FIU).

With Landorf’s appointment as Executive Director, the administrative office of CIES has physically relocated to FIU’s Modesto A. Maidique Campus in Miami, Florida. Formerly known as the “Secretariat,” the CIES Office of the Executive Director (OED) will continue to support the mission, purposes, and operational needs of CIES —working with its Board of Directors, Committees, SIGs, and members to carry out the Society’s shared vision and priorities.

Joining the CIES OED as its Managing Director, and as Post-doctoral Fellow at the OGLI, is Mariusz Galczynski. Additional key personnel at the OED include IT and Finance Director Catherine Wadley (President, Bliss Consulting Services, Inc.); Communications Coordinator Ryan Blanton (Graduate Student, FIU); and Operations Assistant Salma Hadeed (Graduate Student, FIU).

As Executive Director of CIES, Landorf brings to the position deep knowledge of and experience within the Society. She has been an active member since 2002—serving as the CIES Secretariat’s Treasurer (2004-10) and Acting Secretary (2005-07), Chair of the Awards Committee (2010-13), and member of several ad-hoc committees (2012-15). Landorf’s expertise centers on visioning, developing, designing, and implementing the policies and practices of global learning efforts in higher education; under her leadership as OGLI Director, FIU’s university-wide “Global Learning for Global Citizenship” initiative received the 2016 Heiskell Award for Internationalizing the Campus by the Institute of International Education. Her publications include Making Global Learning Universal: Promoting Inclusion and Success for All Students (with S. Doscher & J. Hardrick, Stylus, forthcoming 2017) and contributions to Contesting and Constructing International Perspectives in Global Education (Sense, 2016).

As Managing Director, Galczynski brings commensurate experience—having served as Student Representative on the Board of Directors (2012-15), Chair of the New Scholars Committee (2011-12), Conference Coordinator (CIES 2011 Montréal), and member of several ad-hoc committees (2013-16). Galczynski’s research interests have focused on multicultural education, teacher education and professionalization, and international large-scale assessment; his publications include Redefining Multicultural Education: Inclusion and the Right to Be Different (with R. Ghosh, Canadian Scholars’ Press, 2014) and contributions to Qualities of Education in a Globalised World (Sense, 2014).

Both Landorf and Galczynski were contributors to the Society’s 60th Anniversary Book, Crafting a Global Field: Six Decades of the Comparative and International Education Society (Springer/Comparative Education Research Centre, University of Hong Kong, 2016).
