Dr. Jonathan Mitchell
Dr. Jonathan Mitchell is a Senior Education Scientist in RTI's International Development Group (IDG). He has done pioneering research in quantifying the effects of early childhood diarrhea on children's school readiness and school performance, and his passion is to identify strategies that promise to simultaneously improve the nutritional, health and psychosocial development status of children in developing countries. In addition, Dr. Mitchell brings extensive experience in building capacity in government education departments for decentralized decision making, resource allocation and data gathering, and analysis. He has worked closely with communities to define their educational goals and has pioneered partnership mechanisms between government and communities that result in increased accountability and support for teachers, as well as greater system efficiency. He has worked with a wide variety of stakeholders to design and implement information systems that have proven valuable both to education line departments as well as to barely numerate parents. Dr. Mitchell has conducted policy dialogues with stakeholders from communities to the highest levels of government.
