Canisius College Teaching Fellowship /Diversity Initiative
School of Education and Human Services
The faculty of the Canisius College School of Education and Human Services
embraces the value of incorporating diverse perspectives into the curriculum,
field experiences, and candidate supervision. As we prepare individuals for
careers in PK -12 settings we are cognizant of the importance of providing them
with the knowledge, skills, and dispositions necessary to help all students
learn.
In an effort to invite diverse perspectives which add value to the experience
of our candidates, the School of Education and Human Services is inviting
applications for a 2008-2009 Teaching Fellowship. The successful applicant will
have the expertise and experience to raise our candidates’ awareness of
different teaching and learning styles shaped by cultural influences and assist
them in developing strategies which will be effective for all students.
The successful candidate will serve on a ten-month contract which will provide
financial support of $30,000 per year for one to four years of doctoral work.
The Fellow will be expected to maintain satisfactory academic progress in a
doctoral program. This opportunity is excellent for individuals completing the
dissertation and seeking college-level teaching experience. Specific teaching
assignments will be determined in consultation with the dean and department
chair, depending on the Fellow’s expertise and the needs of the college. The
teaching load will be nine credit hours of classroom teaching or the
supervision of 15 candidates, or some combination of classroom teaching and
supervision, per semester (fall and spring). Other arrangements are possible
depending on the candidates’ qualifications and the needs of the college.
