Research Associate: TEDS-M Survey Specialist

Fixed-Term, 12-month basis, 100% time.

Starting Date:  Not later than November 1, 2006

Duties: Michigan State University seeks candidates of exceptional scholarly and professional accomplishments to work in a major, new, cross-national research project on mathematics teacher education (IEA TEDS-M).  Major responsibilities will include all research aspects of this study, with emphasis on the methodological aspects of survey design, instrument development and data analysis.  We anticipate that 20-30 countries will participate in this study. 

QUALIFICATIONS: Required qualifications include (1) an earned doctorate in quantitative research methods applied to education or related social science discipline; (2) evidence of accomplishment and/or potential in scholarship and research, and (3) demonstrated capability to work as a team member in an intellectual and collaborative professional environment.  Preference will be given to individuals with (a) strong background in social survey design, sampling, and analysis, combined with psychometric IRT scaling methods, (b) experience and/or coursework in mathematics education or closely related areas, (c) a strong interest in research related to cross-national study of teacher preparation programs, (d) strong interpersonal skills, especially in dealing with persons from diverse countries, and (e) other related experience relative to teaching and learning in elementary and/or secondary schools.
