Globalization and Education SIG Issues Call for Papers for 2007 CIES Conference
The Globalization & Education SIG plans to organize two sessions at the CIES annual conference in Baltimore in February, 2007. Please submit proposals directly to the session convenors by October 15, 2006. For general questions about the SIG please contact Esther Gottlieb, gottlieb.26@osu.edu -----------Session one: Theorizing globalization for comparative education research-----------Globalization is being theorised in many ways within CIES, reflecting both the complexity of contemporary phenomena as well as the diverse theoretical orientations of colleagues. This Session will attempt to give shape to this diversity by presenting a range of papers that manifest many of these different orientations, especially as they provide guidance and inspiration for how we can research educational phenomena in ‘global’ times. As such, proposals as invited from CIES members engaged in theorising about globalization, as well as those attempting to understand global processes via new and innovative methodological approaches to comparing educational phenomena across contexts. Accepted papers must be submitted to the panel discussant by January 25, 2007.Convenor: Stephen Carney, Roskilde University Denmark. Please send submissions to carney@ruc.dk-----------Session two: Teaching about globalization-----------Alongside interest in globalization as a concern of research and scholarship, there is increasing interest in teaching about globalization in schools of education, both at the graduate and undergraduate level. This session aims to present a range of pedagogic and curricular approaches being used to present and organize globalization – not only in courses specifically on comparative and international education, but also in general foundations courses as well as in teacher prep courses. CIES members are invited to submit a proposal and/or part of a syllabus that describes their teaching about globalization (whether in a segment of a course, or in a course exclusively devoted to the topic) for a panel that will include brief presentations followed by ample time for discussion and the exchange of ideas.Convenors: Noah W. Sobe, Loyola University Chicago & Sandra Staklis, Stanford UniversityPlease send submissions to nsobe@luc.edu and staklis@stanford.edu-----------
