Announcement: SPECIAL INTEREST GROUPS (SIGS)

Dear SIG Chairs,

As stipulated in the CIES Bylaws, annual dues for each SIG is $150 ($10 per SIG member, minimum membership of 15 per SIG). The deadline for payment for 2007 is December 31, 2006.

Benefits of SIG membership:
The Special Interest Groups (SIGS) provide a forum within CIES for the involvement of individuals drawn together by common interest in a field of study. Recognized SIGS will receive conference space at the annual conference. The CIES Secretariat keeps updated records of SIG members, sends calls for SIG papers via listserv, keeps a record of SIG payments and annual reports, and includes SIG news and/or articles in the CIES newsletter, and SIG announcements in the CIES bulletin. SIGS have the option of maintaining their own web-site/list-serv or distributing a newsletter to their membership.  Such sites and publications are to be operated and paid for by the SIG.

If at all possible, please have the SIG chair send one check for all SIG members. In any case, please send payment to the following address:

Call for the creation of new SIGS

Any group of at least 15 active CIES active members may petition for the establishment of a SIG. Each petition (http://www.cies.us/SIGS/SIG-Petition.htm) should include the printed names, emails and/or mailing address, and signatures of the members, as well as a rationale (http://www.cies.us/SIGS/initial%20documents.htm) describing the purpose, scope, and uniqueness of the SIG and its membership. These petitions will be reviewed and accepted or rejected by the CIES Board of Directors. Approved SIGS are required to submit a yearly annual report form (http://www.cies.us/SIGS/SIG-Annual%20Report.htm). SIGs will be assessed dues to the Association of $150 annual dues to partially defray Society costs for supporting the SIGs. Please see the policies and procedures (http://www.cies.us/SIGS/SIG-Policies.htm) for development and activities of CIES SIGS.

To register your interest in creating or joining a SIG, please send an email to secretariat@cies.us.

Thank you.

Sincerely,

Dr. Hilary Landorf, Secretary and Treasurer
